On Thursday, June 14, at the Marin Rod & Gun Club (7:00 p.m.) our presenter will be Mark Won, sharing his expertise on 'Fishing the Surf for Perch'. For nearly 30 years, Mark has been applying a scientific approach in learning how to become probably Northern California's GURU for Surf Perch Fly Fishing. The fact that he carefully chronicles all his data, as well as that of others, to learn when the best times and tides are for fishing these powerful but small species. When your fly is initially grabbed by these Perch, the power they display might cause you to think you have a specimen that's at least 5 pounds. When you bring them in, however, you'll be astounded that all that power was packed into a beautiful little fish that's maybe 10" long. Apparently having to cope with living amongst the crashing waves does wonders for building their strength.
Mark has also experimented extensively with the development of flies which have been most successful.
